Welcome to the Nursery!

Miss McKay is the Nursery teacher and Mrs Daley is our Early Years Educator.

We are very excited for our new ‘Under the Sea’ topic! We will be learning all about different sea creatures and how we can care for our oceans. In maths, we will be learning all about the numbers 3 and 4. We will also be learning to compare things of different heights and lengths. In Literacy, we will be beginning to learn about rhyming words whilst also continuing to practice our pencil control.

Writing

In writing, there will be an emphasis on writing sounds from our names and other words too. We will be practising the skills of blending and segmenting sounds in words to support our reading and writing.

Maths

In maths, we will be playing lots of number games and practising recognising numbers in and out of sequence! In Space, Shape and Measure we will still be exploring shapes, we will be playing shape games and looking at 2d shapes in everyday life!

Physical Development

In Nursery, we have ‘Moving Monday’ every week. This is when we learn all about our physical development and will be taking part in lots of physical challenges. Children should have long hair tied back and earrings removed on these days.

Homework

Please continue to practise key skills such as: name writing, number formation / recognition, dressing independently, pencil grip and control, scissor skills and manipulative activities such as playdough and Lego!

Reading books will be changed weekly on a Monday and can be changed more regularly if necessary. If the books are longer in length, please feel free to keep them for more time if necessary and just specify this in the contact book.

Outside Learning

Nursery have a fantastic outside area where the children are able to take their learning outside.  Each day, focus areas with a range of activities are put out for children including a mud kitchen, sand trays, number and writing activities and constructions areas.

We are also very lucky to be able to go to Forest School every week! Forest school for Nursery is on a Thursday. Children should come to school in waterproofs and wellies on Forest School Days.
